Prearranged absences of more then two days

Students that know in advance that they will be absent from regularly scheduled classes must print a pre-arranged absence form from our website and return to the Attendance Secretary 3 days prior to absence.

The following are considered excused absences:

1. A student who is temporarily ill or injured or whose absence is approved by the school administration on a prearranged basis.
2. A student who is absent for an extended period due to physical, mental, or emotional disability.
3. Excused absences include  funerals, illness, injury, legal obligations, medical procedures and religious observations, and extenuating circumstances determined by the principal.
4. A student who is attending a school sponsored activity or who is receiving Jeffco educational services.
5. A student who is visiting a parent/guardian who is an active duty Military.
6. A school will require  communication from parent/guardian by 8:00 a.m. the day of the absence to verify the reason. The school may require suitable proof regarding the above exceptions.

Truancy

It is district policy for JeffCo Public Schools that parent contact be made when a student has either 10 unexcused absences in one school year or 4 unexcused absences in one month (whichever occurs first). At FHM, it is our policy that parents receive a phone call from the classroom teacher, the enrollment secretary, & the school counselor. Frequent absences only affect a student’s academic progress, but also social & emotional well being. Just as many adults experience anxiety when late to a meeting or appointment, students feel anxious when returning to a classroom after being away. Lessons are missed & have to be made up on top of regularly assigned work. Social interactions are lost & with frequent absences, relationships can suffer.

If you need help getting your child to school, please reach out to Ms. Crystal, our school counselor. She is more than willing to brainstorm & collaborate on creating plans to get children to school. cchristy@jeffcoschools.us
