Summer Camp

2017 Summer Adventures Camp at Free Horizon Montessori

Each week long camp will center around a theme for the children to explore in-depth.  While similar, the Elementary themes and activities will include more writing, thought and long-term study, whereas the Primary themes will be more experiential.  Each week, the campers will participate in a featured activity which may include a visit from a special program, walking trip or "bus field trip", where they will encounter new ways to explore the week's theme.  Students will also engage in a variety of classic camp activities such as: songs, games, arts, crafts, and water play.
Full day camp includes morning and afternoon snacks, as well as rest time for the Preschool-aged children.  After rest time, campers will be invited to participate in ongoing theme-based and free-choice activities in the afternoon.

Half day camp is includes all major activities and field trips, but does not include snacks or a rest time for younger children.  Campers in all programs should expect to bring a sack lunch daily, as hot lunch is not available in the summer.

The Preschool group includes students who will be 3 or 4 years of age during the 2017-18 school year.  Preschool students follow the same October 1st age cutoff as Jeffco Schools, and must be fully potty trained (accident free for at least 1 month) prior to entering camp. The Elementary group includes students who will be K - 6th grade during the 2017-18 school year. Counselor in Training opportunities for middle school students are also available.

PLEASE NOTE:  Summer information and calendar subject to change.

Counselor in Training (CiT) Program

The CiT Program is for students entering 7th Grade through age 15, who have aged out of the day camp program but are not yet old enough to apply as camp counselors.  This training program will introduce Young Adults to the day-to-day operations and leadership in a summer camp.  Students accepted into the Counselor in Training program will assist Camp Counselors in many areas of Camp Programming, including (but not limited to):
-    Engaging with campers in games and activities
-    Leading small group activities under the supervision of Counselors
-    Preparing the classroom for the day (setting up materials, obstacle courses, etc.)
-    Preparing materials for the campers (cutting, measuring, etc.)
-    Ensuring campers are safe and rules are being followed
-    Small “household” type cleaning tasks (loading the dishwasher, wiping down tables)

Counselors in Training (CiT’s) are still considered “campers” under our child care license, and must be under the supervision of a Counselor at all times.  CiT’s will not be left alone with children, will not provide discipline (beyond basic classroom management), and will not be able to travel out of hearing distance of FHM staff.  The CiT program is a learning opportunity for our oldest students, and we expect to provide CiT’s with guidance and instruction as part of their daily activities.

There is a $50 weekly fee for the CiT program.  This fee covers the cost of the CiT’s spot in the program, including partial coverage for field trips, transportation, and activity materials.  All CiT’s must commit to at least one full session, and must attend Counselor Training (date TBA, week of June 5th).

To apply, complete the Enrollment Form and Application.  Submit all materials no later than May 1st, 2017:

- CiT Application
